Fremont adopted its STR ordinance on January 9, 2024, effective February 8, 2024. A free city Short-Term Rental Permit is required to operate any STR (defined as rentals of less than 30 consecutive nights). STRs are limited to primary dwelling units only. Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs), Junior ADUs, guest houses, accessory structures, and recreational vehicles are not permitted to operate as STRs. A designated local contact must be available 24/7 with a 1-hour response time. Within a reasonable period after permit approval, hosts must notify all properties within a 100-foot radius with the STR permit number and host contact information.
