The City of Sonoma effectively bans new vacation rentals as of December 4, 2017. New vacation rentals are no longer a conditionally-permitted use in any Mixed Use or Commercial zones (residential zones already prohibited them). The only exception is new applications involving the adaptive re-use of a historic structure. Existing, licensed vacation rentals may continue operating under updated standards: maximum overnight occupancy of two persons per sleeping room plus two additional per unit. All advertisements must include the Business License or TOT Certificate number. Note: this applies to the City of Sonoma proper; unincorporated Sonoma County has a separate ordinance.
