Victoria, BC Short-Term Rental Regulations (2026)
Short-term rentals in Victoria are only permitted in the operator's principal dwelling unit and cannot occupy an entire self-contained dwelling unit. Operators must obtain a Short-Term Rental Business Licence and comply with both Victoria's Short-Term Rental Regulation Bylaw and Schedule D – Home Occupations. Tenants may operate short-term rentals with written owner consent, and strata unit operators must also provide strata consent.
Licensing and Permits
Victoria requires hosts to obtain an STR license or permit before listing their property on platforms like Airbnb or VRBO. An inspection is required as part of the permitting process.
Enforcement
Victoria has low enforcement of STR regulations. Operating without proper licensing or failing to comply with local regulations can result in citations, fines, and potential loss of your permit.
