Kelowna, BC Short-Term Rental Regulations (2026)
Starting June 1, 2026, short-term rental hosts in Kelowna no longer need to follow the provincial principal residence requirement when applying for provincial short-term rental registration, subject to local restrictions. The city intends to limit where primary use short-term rentals can operate to buildings in tourism-zoned areas. Hosts must still upload a local business licence at the time of application to ensure compliance with Kelowna bylaws.
Licensing and Permits
Kelowna requires hosts to obtain an STR license or permit before listing their property on platforms like Airbnb or VRBO.
Enforcement
Kelowna has low enforcement of STR regulations. Operating without proper licensing or failing to comply with local regulations can result in citations, fines, and potential loss of your permit.
