Vancouver, BC Short-Term Rental Regulations (2026)
Short-term rentals in B.C. are limited to the host's principal residence plus one secondary suite or accessory dwelling unit on the same property. All short-term rental hosts, platforms, and strata hotel platforms operating in B.C. must be registered with the provincial short-term rental registry as of May 1, 2025. The Act applies to rentals offered via platforms like Airbnb, VRBO, Booking.com, and other listing forums, but does not apply to hotels, motels, First Nation Reserve lands, vehicles, tents, or bookings over 90 days.
Licensing and Permits
Vancouver requires hosts to obtain an STR license or permit before listing their property on platforms like Airbnb or VRBO.
Enforcement
Vancouver has high enforcement of STR regulations. Operating without proper licensing or failing to comply with local regulations can result in citations, fines, and potential loss of your permit.
