Lincoln enacted its short-term rental ordinance in June 2021 under Lincoln Municipal Code Chapter 5.39. A license is required through the Building and Safety department before any STR can operate. Maximum occupancy is two times the number of sleeping areas, capped at 12 persons. In R-1 through R-8 zoning districts, no more than 10 percent of dwelling units in a multi-family building may be registered as STRs, though at least one is always allowed per building. Operating without a license is unlawful with fines of 300 dollars for a second offense and 400 dollars for a third.
Licensing and Permits
Lincoln requires hosts to obtain an STR license or permit before listing their property on platforms like Airbnb or VRBO.
