A short-term rental in Cambridge is the rental of a dwelling unit or bedroom for less than 30 consecutive days. The operator must be an owner or authorized tenant who lives in the STR unit as their primary residence (renting up to three legal bedrooms) or lives in an adjacent unit in a building with no more than four dwelling units. Registration with the City and payment of State excise tax are required.
Licensing and Permits
Cambridge requires hosts to obtain an STR license or permit before listing their property on platforms like Airbnb or VRBO. An inspection is required as part of the permitting process.
