Naperville prohibits short-term residential rentals (rentals of residential structures for periods not exceeding 30 consecutive days) within the City. Operation of such rentals is unlawful and may be declared a public nuisance, except for limited circumstances such as a seller leasing back a property after closing. The prohibition took effect September 1, 2020 under Ord. No. 20-087.
Licensing and Permits
Naperville does not currently require a specific short-term rental license to operate. An inspection is required as part of the permitting process.
