Short-Term Rental Regulations
Low Risk Market

Risk Score
Plano does not appear in our dataset as having a city-level STR ordinance, and Texas has no state-level STR preemption, meaning cities retain full authority to license, cap, restrict, or even ban short-term rentals. Because local rules vary significantly across Texas (Austin, San Antonio, and Houston all regulate STRs very differently), you should contact the City of Plano directly to confirm any permit, licensing, or operational requirements that apply to your property. On the tax side, Texas imposes a 6% state hotel occupancy tax on short-term stays, which you are responsible for collecting and remitting. Always verify current city and county requirements with the relevant local authority before listing.
We monitor Plano's short-term rental rules and alert you the moment they change, so your property stays compliant without the research.
